Summary

In Chapter 11, Father and Antonio set out for dinner. The hotel doorman recommends Chez Papa, owned by his cousin, Monsieur Dominic. Antonio no longer feels threatened in the city. Antonio's relationship with Father has been strained since Father moved out. Father always seems to struggle to be natural Antonio knows Father would have “spoken of a silent hostility” (62) from Antonio. Antonio is fully aware of these facts for the first time. Antonio and Father share a cask of wine with their food, then have biscuits and brandy as a gift from Monsieur Dominic. Antonio notices Father's face for the first time. He asks about a small scar, and Father tells a story of the older students at university who tormented freshmen with pranks of various levels.
