Mushkegowuk Region, Canada Late 1800's-Early 1900's

This is a region in Canada where the Cree roamed for hundreds of years. Niska and her family have lived there in the wilderness all of their lives. Xavier lives there with his aunt Niska. This is the setting for most of Niska's stories about her life and for most of the stories about Xavier's life when he was younger. They were born in this region and it is the area they are traveling back to after Xavier has come home from the war.
