Summary
This chapter continues Xavier's first person narration as he begins the chapter by describing that the frequent German fire had dropped off almost completely in the days after he and Elijah had shot at the German snipers at dawn. When they came back into the trenches they are asked if it is Sean Patrick's killer they had shot but they explain to the soldiers that Sean Patrick's sniper does not work from those plates. Elijah warns the other soldiers to keep their heads down now that Xavier is sniping also. Xavier does not laugh at this joke. Elijah's reputation is growing and he becomes obsessed with getting the German sniper so his reputation will be secured. Soon, the time comes for their battalion to get some rest behind the front lines but Xavier finds that he does not want to go and he...
