Chapters 13 trhough 16 Summary and Analysis
In chapter thirteen, Greg travels around the country. He has been warned by Haji Ali never to travel alone and always to find a guide he trusts. He is having trouble following that advice and eventually settles for a man he barely knows as a guide to his next destination. The man's name is Badam Gul and he tells Greg that he has a "lucrative career" catching and selling rare butterflies to European museums. Greg and Gul travel into Waziristan and Greg is nervous at the fact that most of the men he encounters are heavily armed and smoking a great deal of hashish. Greg decides that he will simply spend the night in the hospitality of a man he believes to be a village elder and to begin the conversations the following day to see how they feel...
