Chapter 21: I Love You

When the sun comes up, Kellan sends Kiera inside and leaves, telling her there is something he has to do. Kiera quietly gets a change of clothing and cleans up. Denny gets up and leaves for work, giving her a kiss goodbye that makes her feel guilty for betraying Kellan. She falls asleep on the couch and misses school, waking just in time to get ready for work. Kellan doesn't come in that night or the next, and he doesn't come home either. Every day Kiera becomes increasingly depressed. Denny tries to cheer her up before he leaves, but he doesn’t ask about her mood. Kellan has been gone for almost a week, and Kiera is beginning to wonder if he is ever coming back.
