Summary
In Chapter 5, Bri finds herself feeling hopeful in spite of her grief and fear. Circe takes the pottery shard. Marie assumes there is nothing significant about the people who took the forged pottery shared from Phillip. Bri believes Karter Redmond might be involved. Marie begins making arrangements for the group to travel to Turkey. At home, Persephone finds it amusing that Bri has seen so many “impossible” things recently, but is hung up on the possibility of encountering sirens. They discuss that these are not mermaids. Circe recounts the origin of sirens and that they vengefully lure sailors to their deaths. When Bri asks how “we” are going to get past them, Angie says she is going with Circe to retrieve Thandie, and that Bri is “gonna stay your butt right here” (77).
