Tradition
Tradition lies at the heart of the novel’s world. Characters like Alessa, the Fontes, and even Dante are bound by centuries of rules and expectations that dictate the things they should do and the future that they want. However, while tradition can be helpful in certain circumstances, Alessa’s time as a Finestra shows how adhering to precedent can cripple the potential of the future.
