Alessa Paladino
Alessa Paladino is the main protagonist and the Finestra of Saverio after her powers were discovered five years before the opening of the novel. Due to centuries of religious traditions, Alessa is referred to by her title by everyone in her life and is forced to break all ties with her earthly relationships. She does maintain a small connection with her twin brother, Adrick, but this becomes more strained as Alessa fails to bond with a Fonte. This isolation deeply affects Alessa’s self-confidence, especially as she becomes more desperate to prove that she is truly Dea’s chosen despite her dwindling faith. By the end of the novel, Alessa grows into a confident leader who sees the value in herself and finally builds the relationships that she has been longing for since being locked away in the Cittadella.
