Summary

Chapter 18 starts as the miserable Fontes join Alessa for dinner. She tries to ask about their lives and hobbies, but Kaleb Sarcastically asks if she will torture them and choose the last alive. Alessa says she has no intentions of killing anyone and the last three died after persistent attempts. Alessa says she will prove herself so one of them will volunteer, but Kaleb toasts to the first death.

After dinner in Chapter 19, Dante is genuinely sympathetic to Alessa's frustration. She asks if he regrets whatever got him his murderer tattoo. He says yes, but says the marks keep him from forgetting and letting them die again. After some encouragement, Alessa talks about how excited and desperate she was after marrying Emer. She just wanted to feel normal again, but killed him instead.
