Alice Stern
Alice Stern is the protagonist of This Time Tomorrow. Alice is an admissions officer at Belvedere School, the same private school she attended. She is the daughter of Leonard and Serena.
Alice struggles with feeling stuck in life. She is embarrassed about never leaving Belvedere and for not harboring any career-related aspirations whatsoever. Alice is also envious of her friends who are married with children. She misses her childhood when she was constantly surrounded by loved ones. Leonard’s illness leaves Alice feeling lonelier than ever.
Alice’s hamartia is her inability to decide on one course of action. Generally, Alice avoids taking responsibility for her choices by never making any big decisions at all.
