Point of View
The novel is written in first person from the limited perspective of a teenager, Bri Greene. A young narrator always faces additional challenges because of a lack of maturity and experiences. Bri does not have close friends because she has spent so much time hiding her ability, and her limited interactions with her peers means she has little experience with understanding what others are thinking. While some narrators are able to figure out what other characters are thinking or feeling based on their behavior, Bri lacks this ability. When she makes a new friend named Karter, she decides she will not hide her ability. Karter seems to be willing to trust Bri based on the fact that he stays with her while plants react to her presence. They spend some time in the garden together.
