Summary

In Chapter 7, Bri tells Angie and Thandie there is a girl outside. Thandie wants Bri to hide in the closet, but she refuses. Angie sees the girl, thinks she might be hurt, and goes outside. Thandie follows with her taser. The girl is gone. They decide to call the police. Dr. Khadijah Grant shows up almost an hour later. She is a social worker and head of the Public Safety Office. The Rhinebeck Police Department is being defunded, and Dr. Grant's office fills the gaps. She calls for backup, giving the address 307 Old Post Road. She and the others look around outside. She says people have become accustomed to the house being vacant. She talks about the unique community here and hopes Bri's family will like it. Bri sleeps at the foot of her parents' bed. Thandie keeps her taser nearby.
