Ethan Honey

Ethan Honey is Esther Honey's grandson. His father is Eha Honey and his sisters are Tabitha and Charlotte Honey. He is the eldest of Eha's children. Not long into Matthew Diamond's time teaching at the Apple Island school, the teacher notices Ethan's marked artistic talents. Although Ethan has had no formal artistic education, he is intuitively skilled in painting and drawing. Matthew attempts to give Ethan some lessons, telling him about the various galleries he has visited and notable artworks he has seen. He also arranges for some art supplies and art books to be sent to Ethan.

Although Ethan appreciates these supplies and the techniques described in the books, he continues to rely upon his intuition about color and light in his artistic projects. For example, although one book identifies only certain colors "to be used [for flesh] when painting portraits," Ethan continues to use "colors...
