Summary
The novel begins with a letter that Tracy writes to Innocence X, a nonprofit organization which helps wrongfully convicted people from underserved communities fight legal battles. Tracy’s father was convicted of murder seven years prior, and he only has 275 days until his execution. The first chapter is “Ready. Set. Go.” Tracy narrates the story in the present tense. She grew up in Louisiana but moved to Texas with her family after Hurricane Veronica. Tracy’s brother, Jamal, is a year older than her. He is a senior in high school and has broken national records for his track times. He is planning on attending Baylor, where he has received a scholarship.
