Connection

The two main characters in the novel, Red and Blue, both find themselves starved for connection because of the circumstances of their work. Red and Blue are both soldiers of a kind in an ongoing time war that their societies are waging against one another. As a result, they freely hop between different universes, through time and place, situating themselves within certain past and future societies so that they can affect the way the world proceeds. As a result, they find themselves living a sort of disembodied life, where they are unable to find meaningful, lasting connection with other people because they hop around so much and need to remain anonymous within the times they jump into.
