Summary
After six years in medicine, Kay tells the reader that his “resolve wavered” (196). He confesses, however, that two things were keeping him there: the time he had put into the job and that he considered it a “privilege...to play such an important role in people’s lives” (196-197). Although there are loads of problems with the job, Kay assures readers that it is worth it because of the care doctors have for patients. When he was invited to represent medicine at his old school’s career fair, he was very honest with students, telling them about the crazy hours and lack of appreciation, but that “there’s no better job in the world” (198).
