Summary
Continuing his position as a senior house officer, Kay is moved to a new post. He explains to the reader that the NHS deaneries move doctors to different hospitals every six to twelve months “to ensure that they learn from a broad range of consultants” (61). However, the hospitals are incredibly spread apart. Kay and H, for example, have been living somewhere halfway between their two workplaces.
Overall, Kay is happy with his choice of obs and gynae. Although the hours are difficult, he feels that he is becoming more confident in his abilities. However, his new placement is “old-fashioned” and there is much less guidance than he had in his other hospital (63).
