Summary
The next chapter is titled “No Memories but One.” Pearl recounts what she knows about her mother, including that she loved her pearl-and-diamond wedding ring set. The rings are now in William's possession. William and Fredrick live in the house they inherited when their parents died in a car wreck. Everyone except the house was lost in the stock market crash of 1929. Pearl watches the brothers interact. Fredrick wants to sell the rings, saying that is the last thing of value.
