Point of View

The novel is written in first person from the limited perspective of Minni. The limited perspective means the reader knows only what Minni knows. In some situations, a limited perspective can be misleading. For example, Minni and Faiza are best friends who spend most of their time together. One day when Minni is on her way to Ma's job after school, she sees Faiza hanging out with some other girls. Faiza seems happy, and this leads Minni to worry about her friendship. Because the reader sees this only from a distance without knowing what Faiza is thinking, this seems like foreshadowing that Faiza's friendship is not strong enough to survive being apart from Minni.
