Fatherhood and Technology
On the whole, Backman's memoir is about fatherhood, and his overall message to readers is that there is more than one proper way to be a father despite what information from the internet might lead one to believe. Backman claims that his generation is obsessed with the newest trends in trying to find the right way to raise a child. Parents are bombarded with information pertaining to what food their child should consume, what kind of clothes they should and should not wear, and what new, well-marketed stuff they should buy for their children. He is the first to admit that he buys into the trap, purchasing non-perfumed baby wipes because they are better for his son's skin, but he is also quick to shoot down the way his generation abuses technology.
