Summary
In Chapter 22, Stella’s principal wants her to stay home, but her mother insists that she has not been charged with anything so she should remain in school. In the hallway, everyone whispers about Stella. She remembers how last year everyone blamed her for pushing a runner from another team, Allison Tarley, who had fallen on purpose because she hated running and her abusive coach. Detective Parker had blamed Stella for that incident just like the incident with his son, though Stella had never been charged with anything.
In Chapter 23, Julia paints the word “monster” on Stella’s locker. The team goes to practice and Coach gives them a speech about winning regionals that Saturday on Mila’s behalf.
