Summary
In Chapter Eight, Stella goes to homecoming with the rest of the team. Even though she is mad at Mila for beating her, she agrees to go outside and talk with her. They sit on the swings and talk about the unsolved serial killings and all the cross country runners who had been targeted. Marlisse Williams had been first, but the police did not take her disappearance seriously because she was Black. Two months later, Beatrice Stiller was found in the same spot on Oak Tower Trail, killed by blunt-force trauma like Tamara. Both girls’ shoelaces had been stolen. Four months later, Abigail Childers had been killed in the same way. Most people suspected local brothers Monty and Kendall Fitzwater, but Monty had died and Kendall had moved away. Detective Parker never found any evidence to convict anyone. Five years later, Shira disappeared...
