Summary
The novel is told in chapters that alternate between the first-person-present perspectives of the Steckler sisters, Stella and Ellie. The novel begins with Stella’s perspective. Stella is a competitive runner, and so is her sister. She has spent the entire summer at a running camp for troubled teens, Breakbridge Elite Track and Field Center. Her parents pick her up and take her back to Edgewater, where she plans to win State to win back the attention of the scouts at Georgetown so she can get a scholarship to her dream school like she thought she was going to before all the trouble she got into last year that left her labeled violent and unrecruitable.
