Jill Newman

Jill Newman is the narrator and protagonist of the novel. She is a 17-year-old senior at Gold Coast Prep. She grew up with two loving parents and a younger brother, Jared. Always a brilliant science student, she won a scholarship to Gold Coast Prep for her work in physics in sixth grade. When she arrived at the elite prep school, she was intimidated by how much wealthier and more glamorous everyone around her was. However, she immediately became best friends with the smartest and most popular girl in school, Shaila Arnold. The two girls did everything together during the school year, though they spent their summers apart because Jill was always at science camp and Shaila had family friends in New York she visited.
