Summary
In Chapter 1, Molly Bergman moved to California and although it was not to escape her parents, it still broke her mother’s heart. Molly’s brother, Daniel, still lived in New York. Every time Molly went back home to California after visiting her family in New York, Joy, her mother, was sad. She did not understand why her daughter had gotten a divorce, married a woman, and then moved. Joy’s family had moved several times when she was young and she had hated the moves made her feel uprooted. Joy felt like her husband, Aaron, would not notice if they moved. He rarely could even remember what day it was.
