Summary

In Chapter 21, Kathleen enters the Communist meeting Juliette asks her to investigate for proof of Zhang Gutai’s involvement. Rosalind was needed elsewhere, so Kathleen took the challenge. She hopes to survive in society as she bumps into Marshall who recognizes her. She almost shoots him but remembers that she is in White Flower territory. Soon, she approaches three men and pretends to be gathering information on Zhang Gutai for university. She is surprised when they mock him, calling him an incapable leader. Eventually, they say that a monster is working with him and that anyone with a wicked heart can control it. Officers arrive and Marshall stops one from harassing Kathleen. She says the White Flowers control the police but Marshall says they would be happy to betray the gang. After learning that Marshall eavesdropped, Kathleen leaves.
