Casey Gerald
Casey Gerald is the author of “There Will Be No Miracles Here” and, as the book is a memoir, both its narrator and main character. The narrative follows Casey’s journey from his childhood years through to his early thirties. Growing up as the son of football legend Roderic Gerald and grandson of renowned pastor Cornelius Gerald, Casey considered himself “a nobody in a family big on somebodies” (30). He was closer to his mother than to his father, but Casey’s most sustained and fulfilling childhood relationship was with his older sister, Tashia: Roderic was sporadically absent from Casey’s late childhood due to drug addiction, while Debra, his mother, was frequently absent due to manic depression.
