Summary
Chapter 19 is titled “Two Thousand Words.” In the first part of the chapter, the author describes the ending of her marriage to Jack. That ending takes place in the office of their therapist, where the author tells Jack that she needs to hear him say in words what he has said with his actions – that six months after he left their home, their marriage is over. Jack remains silent, even after the therapist leaves to give them some space. The author recalls all the ways that Jack supported her, and then says that she is going to file for divorce. She sees all the self-hurting thoughts that seem to be passing through his mind, including the thought that he has turned into his father. As he starts to cry, she takes him in his arms.
