Summary
Chapter 13 is titled “C. Diff Is Not a Rapper.” The author prologues this chapter with an anecdote of a time when she was six, had a baby placed in her lap, and immediately felt like it was a right and good thing. She also describes feeling, ever since, that she was meant to be a mother.
In the weeks after the surgery, the author senses that her marriage is starting to fall apart. She decides that having a baby will fix both it and her, and both she and Jack find new hope and connection in trying to conceive. After a few months and a lack of success, however, that hope starts to fade. They both take several tests, all of which offer no indication of why they are not conceiving. When she tries yet another doctor, she is scheduled for exploratory surgery...
