Summary
In the Preface, the author starts her story with “Hello, my sweet brothers and sisters” (vii). She goes on to advise readers that her memory is not perfect, and offers an example of how she turned the memory of an experience that happened to her brother Tim into a memory of an experience that happened to her. She describes the book as her “best remembrance of what happened,” but reiterates the point that “to somebody else, this story might look a little different” (viii). She goes on to suggest that some of the names of persons she is writing about have been changed, and some of the details in the stories she is telling have been altered.
