Summary
Chapters 36 and 37 cover Day 1 after the storm. As Chapter 36 begins, Frankie woke to see sunshine. The storm had passed. The Plexiglas roof of the enclosure was still covered in dust, and a layer of dust was inside the enclosure, but the bonobos wanted to go in there. They ran about and celebrated, except for Houdina, who headed straight for the pond. She was especially thirsty because she was breastfeeding. However, the pond only contained small mud puddles which were not drinkable. The bonobos gathered on the climbing structure and peeped in surprise at their view of the outside world. Everything was covered in beige dust. Roads and other landmarks were hidden. No sign of life was visible.
Stotts and Frankie tried to turn on their BodyWare. Their Bindis lit up and their EarDrums made sounds, but nothing else happened. Stotts said that they would...
