Summary

Laurel’s evening phone call with Floyd is cut short by a phone call from Blue. Blue insists that she has a gift for reading peoples’ psyches and that Floyd’s aura is dark, implying that he is hiding something. Laurel insists on speaking with Jake and adamantly dismisses Blue’s insinuations. She demands that Jake and Blue stop implying negative things about Floyd before hanging up the phone.

The following evening, Laurel finds SJ at Floyd’s house unexpectantly. She has had a falling out with her mother over her new boyfriend, who is forty-nine and married, with four children. Floyd clearly also opposes the union. When SJ leaves the kitchen in tears, a maternal longing within Laurel causes her to follow her out into the hallway to talk.
