Summary
Sedaris’s play “Stiches” opened in January 1994 to an audience of 50. The second show on Friday sold out, as was the third performance. The Times, Newsday, and the Voice were all in the audience, and Sedaris was tempted to tell them that they were just joking and that it was not a real play but rather “what comes from doodling while you’re holding a bong.” (305). When the reviews came out, Sedaris exclaims that apparently, he and Amy have pulled it off. He writes, “Newsday was great and said good things about everyone, especially Amy. The Times criticized the play for being too long, but other than that the review was fantastic.
