Meyer Landsman

Meyer Landsman is the protagonist of the novel. He is a detective with the Sitka Police Department. Meyer is obsessed with his police work and relies on alcohol in order to manage the neurotic and gloomy thoughts that overtake him when he is idle. Landsman used to be married to Bina Gelbfish, but they divorced after the abortion of Landsman and Bina’s unborn child.

Over the course of the novel, Landsman investigates the death of a man who was staying in the same hotel as Landsman. Despite the fact that the Sitka Police Department is not supposed to open any new cases in the weeks leading up to Reversion, Landsman cannot suppress his impulse to investigate the case. Landsman enlists the help of his partner, Berko Shemets, and together they delve into the world of undergrounds organized crime in Sitka.
