Summary
In Chapter 22, "Winnie," Josalyn was 18 when Winnie met her. After running away from home, Josalyn became an addict while living on the streets. After being assigned to her case, Winnie grew attached. When Josalyn got pregnant, Winnie urged her to contact her family. Josalyn refused. Her stepfather had raped her. Her mother ignored it. Terrified, Josalyn disappeared while pregnant. One night she called Winnie saying she had had the baby and needed help. When Winnie arrived, the baby became "her priority" (205). Thinking nothing of Josalyn, Winnie fled with the child.
In Chapter 23, "Juno," Juno and Samuel talk in the park. When he describes his familial problems, Juno pretends to know nothing, and plays therapist. When he asks about her life, she does not lie. Something is different about Samuel. Afterwards, Juno feels angry with Winnie and Nigel. What they "had done was unthinkable...
