Summary

In Chapter 1, "Juno," Juno steps over broken glass while looking for something to eat. Winnie and Nigel Crouch had a fight last night, and never cleaned up the mess. After eating, she moves slowly through the house. Her illness gives her frequent dizzy spells. Later, she rushes out of the living room, when she hears Nigel arriving. She listens as he cleans the mess. She thinks Winnie is spoiled.

In Chapter 2, "Winnie," Winnie comes home from work excited. Though she and Nigel fought last night, it is their anniversary. She wants to try for another baby, believing her son, Samuel, needs a sibling. She and Nigel were happy before "the bad thing...happened" (22). She soon realizes Nigel has forgotten their anniversary. Though upset, Winnie knows Nigel could never do anything as bad as what she did (25).
