Summary
Chapter 9 opens with a photo of Bridgett and Fannie at Bridgett's graduation from Spelman College in 1982. Bridgett spend some time at Spelman College after her senior year of high school. She returned home for a month before beginning her freshman year, and she spent most of that time working at a clothing store. She used the money to buy new clothes for college. When Fannie took her to the airport, she gave Bridgett an envelope with money and urged her to make it last, promising to send more when she could. As soon as Bridgett arrived at Spelman, she applied for a work study and got a job at the college newspaper. Rita later revealed that business was slowing dramatically. However, Fannie had already planned a trip with family and friends to Las Vegas, and they took that trip...
