Point of View
“The Women of Chateau Lafayette” is a piece of historical fiction told from the first person point of views of Adrienne, Beatrice, and Marthe. The women all have individual connections to the Chavaniac-Lafayette chateau, and each woman is presented at a different, crucial period in French history.
Adrienne’s perspective is shared between April of 1774 and December of 1807, from her marriage at just 14 years old until her death at 48. Her life and marriage to the illustrious Lafayette span both the American and French Revolutions, and she is instrumental in the success of both of these efforts. Themes that permeate Adrienne’s perspective are faith, motherhood, duty, and she has an unwavering will. Adrienne draws influence from Lafayette’s fiery and impassioned character, and although the spouses are often separated, she looks to him for strength.
