The chateau of Chavaniac-Lafayette is the ancestral home of Lafayette. It is a place of wonder that symbolizes the ideals of the Lafayette family. When Adrienne goes to the chateau for the first time, years into their marriage, she finds comfort, even though she is dealing with her husband having an affair (237).
