Summary
Part 4, starts in Deer Isle Maine in July of 1991 – 41 years later from Martin’s perspective now as a grown man. Martin is driving to Marianne’s house for a visit. Martin is now a Professor in the United States, working on a book. He has one child, and his child has a child making him a new grandparent. Marianne’s own children Elisabeth and Katarina live in the American west and Fritz lives in Germany. Marianne’s housemaid Alice brings them tea, and Marianne tells Martin she is a widow from the civil war in Rwanda.
A few hours into their visit, Marianne gives him a postcard that has a picture of Marianne on it with the words “Marianne von Lingenfels: Moral Compass of the Resistance” printed below (303). Marianne explains that it is a new biography written about her, and there will be...
