Importance: Frankie has spent her life up until this point living in privilege. She has always known what is expected of her and women like her. Very few opportunities have been presented to her. She can work as a nurse or a teacher until she gets married at which point she will be expected to give up her career and raise her family. She begins to wonder, however, as her brother goes off to war, what other options may be available to her.
Words won’t help, ma’am. I could talk all day about what it’s like and you still won’t be ready. But you’ll learn fast. Just keep your head down.
