Summary

As Chapter 11 opens, Jamie is deeply injured and unconscious. It is time for him to be flown away, and Frankie thinks about him telling her that he loves her, and she tells him that she loves him. She writes “You fight” and “McGrath” on the rock the boy gave her, and she puts it with Jamie’s belongings (120). He starts to code as he is loaded on the helicopter. At the O Club, Barb gives Frankie some hard alcohol, and it reminds her of the whisky Jamie gave her on her first night. Barb tells her that she will be leaving Vietnam soon.

Frankie and Ethel exchange letters. Frankie tells Ethel about Jamie and how she hopes he survived, but she has seen too much to really believe he could be alive. She wants to contact his family to see how...
