Hortensia's Walks
Hortensia’s walks symbolize peace and understanding. Each day, Hortensia takes walks. She begins these walks sometime after learning that Peter will die, not only to find peace and solace away from the house, but to think, meditate, and reflect on life. This helps Hortensia to deal not only with the problems of the day, but the problems of the past which have never been resolved, such as Peter’s affair.

To roll back the horrors of apartheid, the state is seizing and granting land to the descendants of, and those people themselves, who were wronged in the past by having their land stolen.
