Summary

In Chapter 13, Marion goes to sit with Hortensia to talk with her. She mentions the library and something about St. Winifred’s School in Wynberg, but gets up and leaves before going into detail. Marion remembers how her history teacher, Miss Siebert, recommended a banned book to the students other than the history text required, leading to her being fired. In the present, Marion returns to Hortensia’s room and asks permission to try to remove the stain on the wall. Hortensia agrees. Marion uses a mixture she does not explain to easily and quickly remove the stain. Hortensia asks Marion to give to Bassey the phorograph that had been used to cover up the stain. It was a picpture of Hortensia being kissed by Peter.

Hortensia recalls how, bit by bit, she began to figure out details of the woman Peter was cheating...
