The Woman in the Purple Skirt's apartment is located not far from where the narrator lives. Not long after the narrator takes an interest in the Woman, she follows her to her apartment, eager to know where she resides. She says the building is dumpy and rundown. The Woman lives alone in an apartment on the second floor.
The narrator often stalks the apartment so that she can keep track of the Woman's activities. She is particularly interested in recording when the Woman comes and goes, and how often the director visits her and spends the night.
