Summary
"For the first time in three weeks," the narrator and the Woman in the Purple Skirt have "the same day off" (135). The Woman emerges from her apartment with heavy makeup, clean hair, and high heels. The narrator follows her onto a nearly empty bus. When they get off, the narrator follows the Woman to a coffee shop, where the director is waiting for her in a baseball cap and sunglasses.
The narrator follows them to the Yokota Cinema. Once inside, the director’s face relaxes (139). Once the movie is over, the narrator follows them around. The director tries keeping his face and head covered. The Woman in the Purple Skirt shows off her agility, weaving through the crowds and "smiling delightedly" (141).
