Summary
The next day the man wakes up just before noon according to his watch, although the light outside of the house still seems dark because the sunlight hasn’t penetrated the hole yet. A layer of sand has gathered on his body and grains have gotten into his eyes so that they tear up, so he goes into the main room to use the water in the jug. The woman is sleeping on the other side of the room and has only a towel over her face and the sand covers her body. He drinks the water, and then goes to retrieve his clothes and belongings that have been partially buried under the sand.
