Ironwood

After Angrboda is burnt three times by the gods and has her heart speared out, she runs away and hides in Ironwood, which is also called Jarnvid. It is a forest in eastern Jotunheim. Angrboda lived in the forest when she was Mother Witch, but she does not remember this until the end of the novel. She likes it in Ironwood because it is on the end of the world and is as far away from Asgard as she can get. She feels safe and protected from the gods in Ironwood, even though Odin is technically omnipotent. She lives inside a cave in the woods and raises her children there. During Ragnarok, she locks Hel and Baldur inside the cave and protects them from the apocalyptic fires so that they can survive and come out of the cave into a new Ironwood to start a new world.
