Angrboda/ Mother Witch/ Gullveig
Angrboda is the protagonist of the novel. In traditional Norse mythology, she is a minor figure. Little is known about her other than the fact that she is a witch and the mother of Loki’s monstrous children. In this novel, however, she is presented as a dynamic character with an intriguing backstory and an entire character arc. Angrboda has several different identities that eventually merge as one. Before she lives with the gods in Asgard, she is known simply as Mother Witch. She lives in Ironwood and raises wolves while practicing her magic. Then, she travels to Asgard and starts going by the name of Gullveig. She begins working with Odin and Freyja, who both want to learn seid.
