Summary

Angrboda quickly went to Hel’s realm to see her daughter, but Hel was angry with Angrboda. She said she did not want to see her mother, and accused her of being weak and a coward. Angrboda tried to explain that she had been kept away by circumstances outside her control, but Hel would not listen to her mother’s excuses. She was too angry at having been left in the underworld alone all this time. The flesh of her legs had rotted off and she was half-skeleton now. She had seen how her mother had saved her as an unborn child and she cursed her mother for saving her when she should have let her die.
